OpenAI has started rolling out an enhanced voice mode feature for ChatGPT Plus subscribers and users of the ChatGPT Team business service. According to Bloomberg, users of the Enterprise and Edu plans will gain access to this feature as early as next week. We’ll keep you updated on further developments.
Expanded Voice Mode Rollout
The feature, which responds to written and visual prompts using voice, was initially introduced in May. However, the launch was delayed for a few months due to identified security concerns. A limited number of ChatGPT Plus customers gained early access in July, but now the rollout is expanding to a wider user base.
As part of this expansion, OpenAI announced that five additional voice options will be added, bringing the total to nine. For security reasons, the voice assistant will not be able to imitate other people’s speech, ensuring it cannot create fake voices. Additionally, filters have been implemented to identify and reject requests for copyrighted music or audio.
Missing Announced Features
Despite the rollout, some anticipated features remain absent, notes NIX Solutions. As Bloomberg notes, the previously announced computer vision function, which would enable users to interact with the chatbot using their smartphone camera, is not currently included.
The company continues to refine its offerings, and we’ll keep you updated as more features become available.
