Cortana Update and Shutdown
The Cortana voice assistant client in Windows 11 was updated for the first time in two years, received no new features, but completely turned off. The Windows Latest portal told how Microsoft will replace Cortana in the next OS releases.
After the update, the application opens, but reports that it no longer works. The same is said on the Microsoft support page. Also, the assistant disappeared from the Microsoft Launcher for Android, but remained in Outlook, Teams, Teams Rooms, and Windows 10. The latter will lose Cortana within a few weeks, notes NIXSolutions.
“We are making some changes to Windows that will impact users of the Cortana app. Starting in August 2023, we will no longer support Cortana on Windows as a standalone application,” Microsoft said.
Disappearance and Removal Across Platforms
According to the Windows Latest portal, the removal of the assistant may be due to the fact that the company will integrate the Microsoft 365 Copilot AI assistant in the next version of Windows 11 (23H2). The latter will soon receive plugin support.
