At the Google I/O 2025 conference, the company introduced a host of new AI-powered features for Workspace apps — changes affected Gmail, Google Docs, and the Google Vids video editor.
Smarter Gmail and Workspace Integration
Gmail’s personalized intelligent responses now help users compose emails based on context and tone. The system analyzes previous correspondence and files in Google Drive, generating responses that reflect relevant data. The writing style adapts automatically — whether formal or conversational — depending on the user’s communication history.
A new inbox cleanup feature allows the Gemini AI assistant to make decisions about deleting or archiving unnecessary emails. For example, you can give it a free-form command to delete all unread messages from a specific recipient over the past year.
Scheduling has also been improved. Users can now quickly arrange meetings and conferences with people outside their organization. Gemini assists by reducing the time spent comparing schedules and sending emails. Google says all of these new Gmail features will be generally available in the coming months — and we’ll keep you updated as they roll out.
AI Tools in Google Docs and Vids
In Google Docs, users can now link directly to data in presentations, spreadsheets, and reports. When generating text, Gemini only uses these linked sources, ensuring the generated content is based on accurate and relevant material. This feature is already generally available.
Google Vids now lets you turn Google Slides presentations into full videos. Gemini offers scripting help, voiceovers, animations, and other enhancements. A key new feature is the use of AI avatars, which can read scripts aloud in customized videos. This is especially helpful for corporate messaging, product training, and other business-related tasks. AI avatars will be generally available in June.
Another improvement is Transcript trim, which automatically removes filler words and unnecessary interjections from recorded speech. Users can also adjust audio levels with the new Balance sound feature. Balance sound will be generally available in June, while Transcript trim will appear in the experimental Labs section soon, adds NIX Solutions.
Finally, Google has improved the Imagen 4 image generator. This allows for the creation of higher-quality illustrations in documents, further enhancing visual content across Workspace apps.
All these updates aim to streamline workflows and reduce manual effort — and we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
