OpenAI has introduced a new tool to streamline AI agent development. The key component is the Responses API, a set of ready-made solutions for automating tasks such as internet searches, file analysis, and computer operations on behalf of users.
Olivier Godement, head of the API platform at OpenAI, emphasized the company’s vision for AI agents. While OpenAI plans to develop its own, like Deep Research and Operator, it also aims to provide developers with foundational tools to create agents tailored to their needs.
Key Features and Future Plans
The Responses API includes a search tool powered by the same AI model as ChatGPT. Built on GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini, it retrieves relevant web information with sources and performs computer tasks through the Operator model. Additionally, the file search function is useful for various applications, from customer support automation to legal document analysis.
OpenAI also introduced the Agents SDK, a tool for managing AI agents, adds NIX Solutions. Product manager Nikunj Handa explained that while the Responses API handles individual tasks, the Agents SDK enables multiple agents to work together on complex problems, improving coordination and efficiency.
This innovation complements existing OpenAI tools, including the Chat Completions API. The company also plans to phase out the Assistants API in favor of the Responses API by mid-2026. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
