NIXSOLUTIONS: Audi Integrates ChatGPT into MIB3 Infotainment System

Audi is implementing ChatGPT into its MIB3 infotainment system to enhance voice control capabilities. Starting in July, approximately two million Audi vehicles produced since 2021, including the Audi A3, will receive updated features. New models such as the Q6 e-tron will also feature ChatGPT.

Enhanced Voice Control and Safety Features

The integration of ChatGPT into the MIB3 system opens up new, previously unavailable opportunities, according to the company’s blog. Audi drivers will be able to use enhanced voice control to operate the infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning systems, as well as ask general questions. The ability to request information in real time without taking your eyes off the road makes driving safer.

ChatGPT is provided through the Azure OpenAI Service, and the new feature is based on Chat Pro technology from Cerence, which is directly involved in the integration of the chatbot into the Audi Assistant on the new E 3 1.2 architecture. Marcus Keith, vice president of infotainment development at Audi, notes that the seamless integration of ChatGPT into the voice control system combines the strengths of ChatGPT and Chat Pro technologies. “In addition to a wide range of voice functions, our customers will now have easy and secure access to an AI-powered knowledge base. This is another step towards creating a premium user experience in Audi vehicles,” he said.

AI-Powered Enhancements and Future Capabilities

To activate the assistant, you need to say “Hey Audi” or press the push-to-talk button on the steering wheel. Depending on the question or command, the AI assistant will determine what exactly it should do. If the system cannot cope with the task, it will redirect it to ChatGPT. In the future, it will also be possible to ask questions about the vehicle’s technical condition, such as tire pressure. We’ll keep you updated on these developments.

Audi is committed to moving with the times and making the most of the potential of artificial intelligence, offering services and products to improve the user experience in the car, as well as in business processes. In particular, AI is used to make decisions regarding interior design and support quality control in production, notes NIXSolutions. The company says it is also committed to the responsible use of AI in accordance with the principles of ethics and EU regulation on artificial intelligence, and its employees are trained to use AI in accordance with modern standards and taking into account future needs.
