NIX Solutions: Microsoft Releases Windows 11 24H2 Update

Microsoft has released an update to the Windows 11 24H2 operating system. However, it is officially available only for Copilot Plus PC laptops based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors, which will go on sale today. The remaining millions of users will have to wait.

Sales of Copilot Plus PCs (mostly laptops) based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X Arm processors begin today, June 18. Such systems will offer installation of Windows 11 24H2 in the form of the June cumulative update KB5039239. Non-Copilot Plus PC owners can also install cumulative update KB5039239, but only if they are part of the Windows Insider testing program. In other words, for them, the 24H2 update is currently available only within the test build of Windows 26100.863, which is currently distributed through the Release Preview channel. The specified Windows test build is not recommended for use as a permanent build. As Windows Latest notes, it contains various errors.

Compatibility and Features of Windows 11 24H2

Although it is technically possible to run the new version of Windows 11 24H2 on a PC based on AMD or Intel processors, users will not receive any benefits. Additionally, there aren’t really many new features in this initial release of 24H2, even for Copilot Plus PC systems. Microsoft has removed one of its key new features: Recall. The company continues to test it and will likely release it with a full release of Windows 11 24H2 this fall. At the moment, Windows 11 24H2 only fixes some bugs, including compatibility issues with the BattlEye game anti-cheat with Windows for Arm, and also offers some security updates.

So far, the most significant change in Windows 11 24H2 is related to the Copilot AI assistant. In the new version of the OS, it can be used like any other regular application for Windows 11. The virtual assistant window is no longer tied to the desktop sidebar – it can be moved and resized, notes NIX Solutions.

Future Updates and Features

With the full release of the 24H2 update for all platforms, which is likely to take place in September or October, the operating system will offer significantly more new features. However, some of them will remain exclusive to Copilot Plus PC for the first time, for example, the same Recall function. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments regarding this update.
