NIX Solutions: Windows 11 Cements Its Place as Steam’S Most Popular OS

Steam’s October hardware survey data highlights ongoing trends in user configurations, with Nvidia continuing its dominance in the graphics card sector. Among the top 20 most popular GPUs on the platform, there were no AMD Radeon models, indicating a persistent challenge for AMD in competing with Nvidia. However, some shifts were noted among AMD graphics cards. The Radeon RX 6600 became the most popular AMD GPU in October, replacing the older RX 580. The RX 6600 was used by 0.98% of Steam users, gaining 0.25 percentage points, while the RX 580 saw its user base grow by 0.26 points, reaching 0.97%. These cards now rank 34th and 35th in Steam’s overall GPU popularity.

In contrast, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 leads the platform, with a 7.46% user share, an increase of 1.6 percentage points over the month. Following are the mobile GeForce RTX 4060, with 5.61% of users (up by 1.24 points), and the desktop GeForce RTX 4060, used by 5.25% (up by 0.67 points).

Growing Adoption of Windows 11

The platform also observed a continued rise in Windows 11 adoption, now reaching a 51.97% user share, which reflects a monthly growth of 4.28 percentage points. Memory configurations are evolving as well, with 16 GB of RAM becoming more popular—now used by 46.75% of surveyed users, a rise of 1.43 points. NIX Solutions adds that storage preferences are shifting, as users with more than 1 TB of storage grew by 8.54 points, totaling 65% of participants. Intel CPUs remain the preferred choice, with a 65.62% share in October.

Language Preferences on Steam

In terms of language use on Steam, English led with 39% of the user base, marking an increase of 8.09 percentage points. Simplified Chinese remains the second most common language at 35.57%, though it experienced a slight drop of 1 percentage point.
